A joint operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Australian Federal Police with the assistance of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority has resulted in the seizure of drugs worth more than $15 million Fijian dollars in the Western Division on Monday afternoon.
As a result a Fijian and an Australian national are in custody after they were found with parcels containing cocaine weighing close to 50kg.
Following weeks of extensive intelligence gathering the joint operation team closed in on the two suspects near the Vuda Mariner where the illicit drugs were seized from the vehicle the two were traveling in.
Further investigations also resulted in the discovery of large amounts of Fijian and Australian currency from one of the suspects’ hotel room.
With investigations still in to its early stages no further details will be released at this point in time.
The Fiji Police continues to work closely with the Australian Federal Police in the issue of transnational crimes and is truly appreciative of their continuous support.
Those who have the intention or are involved in such illegal trades is warned that the Fiji Police has the ability and assistance of law enforcement agencies such as the AFP to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
