A new Judge was ceremoniously sworn in today to the Fiji Court of Appeal by His Excellency the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at Government House.

Judge Jayantha Jayasuriya took oath before the Fijian Head of State and senior members of the Fijian Judiciary.

He comes with vast experience having gained his first qualification from the Sri Lanka Law College in 1981 and went on to complete Masters of Philosophy from the University of Hong Kong.

Mr Jayasuriya served as a trial judge to the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and was sworn in as President’s Counsel in 2012.

He spent a significant part of his career at the Sri Lankan Attorney General’s Department and has also served on special international assignments.

Mr Jayasuriya has attended and presented at many international law conferences and seminars.
