Fiji loses opener

By JOSEPHINE NAVULA

Fiji lost their first match on a close margin against Scotland, 14-12.

Debutant Manueli Laqai scored an opening try for Fiji, but it was not enough to help the side after being defeated in a tough match.

Nadroga’s Samisoni Viriviri also played an outstanding performance after blistering his way to scoring their last try at the corner.

Playmaker, Joji Raqamate managed to score one conversion.

As quoted from Teivovo, Fiji controlled much of the play but gave away possession too easily when in the Scotland 22 to allow the Scots to stay in the game and eventually sneak a win.

Meanwhile, Home team New Zealand lost their opening match to England, 19-14.
Fiji’s second match is against Australia at 4.46pm and our last pool match is against Portugal at 8.34 tonight.

The first pool match of the tournament kicks off 12pm between France and Kenya.
