Fiji nails New Zealand to face Wales in final

Fiji played catch up in the first half and superbly defeated New Zealand in the Cup semis, 33-14, to secure themselves a spot in the final against Wales.

New Zealand’s Ben Lam paced his way through the Fijian defence to score the opening try, before Rocky Kahn scored another try.

Fiji bounced back after Samisoni Viriviri scored a try, but it was not enough as New Zealand led halftime, 14-7.

Fiji continued to fight their battle, after Viriviri scampered his way through the NZ players and scored under the posts, before Jasa Veremalua scored two consecutive tries to stretch Fiji’s lead, 26-14.

Ulaiasi Lawavou later scored the last try to determine their victory, 33-14.

Meanwhile, Kenya was beaten by Wales in the first semifinal 19-0.

In the plate semifinals Canada defeated Portugal 19-14, Samoa beat Australia 12-5.

In the bowl semifinals England beat South Africa 26-14 and Hong Kong beat USA 20-12.

The cup final will be held at 11pm.
