FIJIAN FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER TO MEET NEW ZEALAND COUNTERPART

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola (pictured) will be meeting his counterpart from New Zealand, Minister Murray McCully today in Suva.

During his stay, Minister McCully will also meet other ministers, including the Attorney-General and Minister for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Minister for Agriculture, Forests, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.

The visit provides an opportunity to discuss bilateral issues concerning the two countries and also regional and global issues.

It is envisaged that one of the key issues to be discussed concerns Fiji’s preparations for democratic elections later this year, which New Zealand is assisting Fiji on.

This visit by Minister McCully follows the announcement by Australia and New Zealand on the lifting of all sanctions against Fiji on Monday, 31st March.

This is the second time Minister McCully has visited Fiji this year. He was in Fiji in January as the Chair and part of the Ministerial Contact Group of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Minister McCully will be in Fiji for two days.
