Cricket Fiji international Viliame Yabaki has top scored for his adopted Australian side, the Boroondara Cobras over the weekend. Yabaki travelled to Australia in early January after being invited to play for the Melbourne based side for the season, continuing successful campaigns with them in the past.

The match is a two-day game against the East-Ivanhoe saints with the leg-spinner and right-handed all-rounder batting ninth in the Cobras team. The Cobras finished day one all-out on 240, thanks to a last wicket stand by Yabaki, scoring 57 off 35 balls. The match continues next Saturday.

However, Yabaki is just one of many Fijians currently playing across Australia to take advantage of the level of talent and quality of experience in the Cricketing powerhouse. Cricket Fiji currently has players competing for Mt Pritchard-Southern Districts in the Sydney Shires competition, Sandgate-Redcliffe, Port Adelaide, Sydney Women’s Grade comp as well as fourth-grade for Sydney Cricket Club.

Releasing players to Australian sides for the season is a strategy that has worked well for Fijian Cricket with Players like Yabaki returning to represent Moce 1 in the Suva Cricket Association, Cricket Fiji’s national side as well as the East-Asia Pacific region in the recent Commonwealth Bank Australian Country Cricket Championships.
