By RITESH KUMAR of NFA

National Fire Authority attended to a house fire incident at Tabulutu Street in Matavolivoli Settlement in Nadi this afternoon which destroyed a three-bedroom concrete house.

NFA Nadi received a fire emergency call at 1505hrs and upon arrival at 1525hrs, the fire crew, found the house fully engulfed in flames.

The firefighters extinguished the fire with deliveries of water from the fire trucks and also from the nearby fire hydrant in the area to extinguish the fire.

The house and its contents were destroyed in the fire.  House owner and the family were able to get out of the house safely.

NFA saved four homes in this settlement from catching the fire as the fire was threatening to spread to other four houses which were three metres away from the fire scene.

NFA fire investigations are currently underway.

The Nadi Station Fire Team was fighting a bush fire in Malawai, Votualevu when they received the fire call.

NFA is again reminding members of the community not to start bush and rubbish fires.

NFA CEO John O’Connor is urging members of the community to take extra care and ensure that a fire does not start in their property.

“We must all take fire safety seriously since it is one of the most dangerous disasters,” Mr O’Connor said.

“NFA needs the support from the members of the community and we are urging members of the community to be more vigilant and regularly check their homes on a daily basis and get rid of all things that can start unplanned fires in homes,” Mr O’Connor said.

The NFA CEO is also encouraging communities to work with their local Fire Station and arrange for fire safety and prevention awareness programs for their local communities.
