Women of all ages gathered together at Fiji National University’s Lautoka Campus to collectively celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday, March 7.

“Women are the major parts of the society and play a great role in the economic, political, and social activities. International Women’s Day is honored to remember and appreciate women’s contribution and achievements.

“Empowering women isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s the smart thing to do. When women succeed, nations are safer, more secure, and more successful”. said Fiji National University’s Head of School for Education Mr. Hem Chand.

Mr. Chand added that the celebration was mainly an act of appreciation for the pivotal role women play in society in terms of strengthening awareness strategies towards daily struggles that women often faced.

Male participants present at the celebration were urged to take a stand by refusing the trend of consistent violence against women by treating women equally and fairly.
