FWCC creates awareness on the sports field

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre continues its support for the Red Rock Rugby Club this year.

For the last three years the FWCC has been working closely with the club, creating awareness against violence against women among players as well as providing assistance in the running of the club’s local tournaments.

Club manager Malakai Yamaivava said he is grateful to FWCC for being one of the club’s most loyal supporters.

Yamaivava said apart from its sponsorship, the FWCC has had great influence over their players since they got involved.

“Most of our players who come through the club are uneducated and when they first come in, they have this attitude problem especially when it comes to issues about women. But because of the awareness programs of the FWCC all these players have changed their mindsets and have become not just better people but better athletes as well. We’re thankful for the support from FWCC and hope this support continues both on and off the field,” said Yamaivava.

Today 13 teams from around Suva as well as from the western division and from Wainibuka converged at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park for the Red Rock Rugby Club’s Grassroots tournament, aimed at developing players and teams from grassroots levels.

The FWCC provided officials and referees from the Tailevu Referees Association with T-Shirts and refreshments for the tournament.
