The project of development of the 2012 Vanuatu Pacific Living Condition Survey (Hybrid survey) aim is to meet with Cost-effectiveness and survey management efficiency. This is critical as the absence of functioning administrative databases in most Pacific Islands Countries is a constraint. Running standard household surveys, is unsustainable for small Pacific Islands Countries Statistical systems, which cannot afford running sequential and very costly household surveys simply to derive much needed development indicators.
The methodology of the multi-purpose household Survey on Living Conditions in the Pacific Islands has been designed to provide a solution to this challenge. The survey should feed into the recent regional initiative on the development of a Minimum National Development Indicator data set. Initial emphasis was on 10 thematic areas, covering 142 indicators, 82 of which will be obtained from this survey.
The survey was conducted by seven teams, each composed of two interviewers and one supervisor. Two teams based in Shefa, the capital province, and one in each of the other five provinces.
Involvement of NSO staff in the supervision is crucial, for data quality, support to the team in the field, data transmission.
After collecting all the data, the Hybrid results will be delivered as fact sheet and brief summary on different sections.
