LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER COMMENDS LABASA GROWTH

Labasa’s position as the administrative centre of the Northern Division will strengthen Government’s ‘look north’ policy.

At the celebrations commemorating Labasa Town’s 75th anniversary  on  Monday December 29,2014.

The Hon. Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Kumar commended the growth of the Northern town.

The Minister said the celebrations also marked the progressive developments taking place since establishment.

“History tells us Labasa was proclaimed township on 5th May, 1939, from a humble beginning of just few hundreds citizens in the 1930’s and 1940’s,” Mr Kumar said.

“Labasa town has made several significant achievements over the last five years and a major one is zero debt status. This town is probably one of those fortunate ones that paid off all its outstanding loans taken by the previous administration. Economic indicators show that a high level of potential investment are ready to take up investment in Labasa.”

In marking the celebrations, the Hon. Minister paid tribute to every Fijian contributing to the growth and development of Labasa.
