Man convicted of posing as a police officer sentenced to 15 months imprisonment

Binesh Pillay who was convicted of posing as a police officer to obtain money was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Pillay was found guilty of one count each of Obtaining a Financial Advantage by Deception and False or Misleading Information.

Pillay whilst being in remand at the Valelevu Police Station,  pretended to be a police officer and obtained $300 from a fellow inmate’s wife after promising to assist in the release of the inmate from the Suva Remand Centre.

He also then provided a false residential address to a court officer while the court officer was filling out the accused’s bail undertaking form.
