NEW ADDITION TO FIJI’S JUDICIAL COMMUNITY

Two new senior legal officers today joined the Fijian Judiciary after they were ceremoniously sworn in this morning by His Excellency the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Justice David Alfred was sworn in as a judge to the High Court and Mr Rangajeeva Wimalasena as Resident Magistrate.

Justice Alfred is a barrister at law who attained his LLB from the University of London in 1973 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1971.

He has extensive legal experience and has specialised in corporate matters including banking, contract, insurance and land acquisition matters.

Magistrate Wimalasena is from Sri Lanka and has attained a Masters of Law from the  University of Colombo.

He holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Open University of Sri Lanka as well as a Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Science from the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Colombo.

Magistrate Wimalasena was admitted to the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1999 as an Attorney at Law and started practicing as a Barrister and Solicitor to the High Court of Fiji in 2012.
