Government continues to empower children with special needs through the assistance provided to Special Schools.
This follows the donation of over $6000 worth of technological devices which included two new computers and a printer to the Nausori Special School by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Rosy Akbar.
“This assistance is given with the hope to help these children excel in their computing studies. Assistance such as this ensures that children with special needs are given equal opportunities to prosper academically. We will continue to reach out and empower children with special needs,” Minister Akbar said.
The head teacher for Nausori special School, Mrs Sofia Waqanidrola thanked Minister Akbar for providing the timely assistance.
“Starting next week, these students will have the opportunity to learn computer skills and from next term, computing studies will be incorporated into our school curriculum.
We will be able to provide them with daily computer learning lessons for an hour or so. This assistance has given them incentive to develop computing skills that will help them with their future career.
“It is also overwhelming to see that Madam Minister (Rosy Akbar) has been able to fulfil our request within a short span of time. And the students who were not getting bus fare assistance are now being assisted.
“This has all been possible through Minister Akbar’s care and concern for the development of these children. This assistance is a reflection of the Fijian Government’s commitment to provide inclusive and enabling a learning environment for children with disabilities,” Mrs Waqanidrola said.
The assistance follows Minister Akbar’s official visit to the Nausori Special School in June this year where the management requested for the Ministry’s assistance to start computing classes for 51 students.
