Nitesh wins TISI Sangam snooker open

Nitesh Chand became the toast of the show upon the successful completion of the TISI Sangam snooker open tournament held at the Sigatoka club on Saturday, April 24.

Chand defeated Mahend Deo in the final 3-1 while in semis Deo won over Esala Talebula 2-1 and Chand defeated Sunny Narayan 2-0.

Some of the Big names that took part in the tournament was Viliame Umu, defending Champion Vineel Nand, who lost to eventual winner Nitesh Chand, Esala Talebula, Mahendra Deo, Rimal Narayan, Rahil Prasad and Isireli Kaci.

Tournament co-ordinator Rocky Ali said the event would saw most of their best snooker players competing against some former top national players and current national rep.

“One day tournament had attracted most of the country’s top players plus some former top players who now reside overseas,” Ali said.

“For the very first time the organisers invited non Sangam Players as well to participate, where we attracted close to 30 players in one day tournament aimed to expose new talent and promote the sport at the grassroots level.” he added.

The winner (Nitesh) walked away with $300.00 while Civil Engineer Mahendra Deo from Nadi settled for $ 150.00.
