Policing Fiji through Rugby on course – Narayan

The Fiji Police Force continued to impress in the local rugby sevens circuit by winning the coverted Fiji Bitter Gaunavou Savusavu Sevens last weekend.

The team beat Savusavu based team Bilibili – 61 points to 0 in the finals of the two days tournament and walked away with $4000 prize money.

Policing Fiji through Rugby initiative is a community policing concept adopted by the Fiji Police Force for its’ sevens rugby team.

The concept enables the team to take part in sevens tournament and also conduct awareness program to the local community.

 It is also part of the Duavata Concept use by the Force to reach out to members of the community.

This was the second title win this year for the Men in Blue as they had earlier claimed the famous Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens after reaching the finals of the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens last month.

The team is comprised of police officers and well-known rugby players such as Samisoni Viriviri, Ulaiasi Lawavou, Apisalome Waqatabu, Meli Kurisaru.

Acting Police Commissioner Ravi Narayan congratulated the team and management and encourged them to continue with their awareness program of Policing Fiji through Rugby.

He said the senior management of the Fiji Police Force will continue to rally behind its sevens team in its awareness program.

The Police sevens team will travel to Samoa to participate in the Independence Day Invitation sevens later this month.
