Sharpshooter Umu grabs another title

Nausori Club player Viliame Umu took out the Tropicx Design Studio-sponsored BSAF National  6-Red Open Snooker tournament, which took place over the weekend at Nadi Sports Club and Nadi Club. He was awarded a trophy and a prize money of $ 300.

Umu overcame Nadi Sports Club’s David Reddy 3-1 in an entertaining final. In the first semi-final, Umu won over defending champion Isireli Kaci of Lautoka Club by 3-1, while Reddy won by a similar margin over a spirited Simon Reddy of Central Club, Ba.

The BSAF President thanked the tournament coordinators Remal Narayan and Raymond Reddy and paid sincere gratitude to Raymond Prasad of Tropicx Design Studio for sponsoring this national tournament. After a few withdrawals, pools were drawn for the 24 players who participated in this tournament.

There were several upsets created at the event. In the qualifying stages, Navin Dutt of Sigatoka Club beat Northwest Champion Mahendra Deo 2-0, Vineel Nand lost to rookie William Lee 2-1, and former Fiji Champion Yogendra Prasad bombed out after losing to Philip Gock. Some of the top players who took part were Yogendra Prasad, Nitesh Chand, Tony Cen, Mahendra Deo, David Reddy, and Viliame Umu.

Defending TISI Sangam Open champion, Vineel Nand, will face an uphill battle in this weekend’s TISI Sangam Fiji Open tournament which will take place at the Sigatoka Club on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 April.
