Sogavare hails PNG for support

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has welcomed ongoing commitments and development cooperation between PNG and  Solomon Islands.

PM Sogavare yesterday met Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration Rimbink Pato, who is on a two-day visit to Solomon Islands.

The two leaders held discussions on issues of mutual interest.

At the meeting, Minister Pato congratulated Prime Minister Sogavare on behalf of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and the people of Papua New Guinea on his successful election as Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.The two countries have close bilateral relations that have grown from strength to strength in the form of a number of agreements on their common maritime border and other development cooperation programs.

 

This year, the PNG Government has sponsorship training for over 200 Solomon Islands students in various tertiary institutions in PNG under the PNG Government scholarship grant which began in 2014.

The four-year agreement caters for more than 800 scholarships offered to Solomon Islands students to study in PNG institutions up to 2022.
