The Digicel Fiji 7s bowed out of the cup competition after going down to England 26-12 in the quarterfinal. The side proved too strong for South Seas rivals Samoa 31 – 26 in the plate semifinal before out-classing Kenya in the plate final.

Digicel Fiji’s Public Relations and Sponsorship Manager, Satish Narain congratulated the team and said that the performance of the team was above expectations and winning the plate title was a proud achievement.

“Despite not being able to defend their Gold Coast title, the Digicel Fiji 7s team showed tremendous improvement in taking out the plate title. He also acknowledged the wonderful job done by the new Digicel Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan and the team management in preparing the team well”.

Narain presented the bonus to the team at the Nadi International Airport upon arrival this morning. He also thanked the Fiji Rugby Union for their role in the team’s preparation.

“Over the years, the FRU has helped many players fulfill their dream of donning the national jersey and a good example is Waisea Nacuqu who had an outstanding debut on the Gold Coast.”

He also thanked all the loyal supporters who came out so early to show their appreciation for the team and thanked all Digicel customers for their continued support and said that without them Digicel would not exist.

Digicel Fiji 7s team skipper, Ratu Osea Kolinisau said the team had potential to grow and they should deliver better results in round two of the world series in Dubai.

Kolinisau also thanked sponsors – Digicel Fiji – who do so much, not only for the Sevens team, but for rugby in general in Fiji

“Thank you Digicel and a big vinaka vakalevu to the Digicel Fiji 7s team for winning the plate title in Gold Coast as we look forward to better results in future.” said Kolinisau.
