Student injured in bus accident

An investigation is underway into a serious accident that has landed a 14 year old student in hospital.

The incident occurred yesterday at 0710hrs at Reba Circle, Nadera. According to the police report, the 14 year old while still in the process of boarding a bus was thrown out as the bus driver had allegedly moved the bus.

As a result the front tyre of the bus went over the victim’s leg causing injuries. He was conveyed to the Valelevu Health Centre and later transferred to WWM Hospital and is currently admitted at the Acute Surgical Ward.

This is a serious incident and Public Service Vehicle drivers must ensure the safety of their passengers should be looked after at all times. The fact that the driver allegedly moved the bus before the student had taken his seat or in this case was allegedly still on the first step is a serious safety breach and we will not be treating this case lightly.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says he is liaising with the Land Transport Authority CEO to take the necessary actions as investigations continue as bus drivers must take more responsibility of their passenger’s safety.
