TODDLER DROWNS IN RA

Police are calling out to members of the public to take heed of the weather warning and stay indoors. This call comes after a three year old girl drowned in a creek near Vatusekiyasawa Village in Rakiraki yesterday.

The deceased was playing outside the Village Community Hall yesterday afternoon when her 62 year old grandmother noticed her missing.

Alarm was raised and her body was found floating in the river about 200 meters away from the village.

The drowning death toll now stands at 6 compared to 11 in the same period last year.  Police are advising parents to keep their children away from drains, creeks and rivers since they will be flooded during this rainy weather.

Police are reminding parents on their responsibilities in looking after their children. Police are also reminding parents that due to unfavorable weather, schools will close down early and they should be expecting their children home soon.
