Top Samoa rugby official insists his resignation is entirely for personal reasons

We’re only in February and already it’s looking like another year of turmoil for the Samoa Rugby Union.2014 ended with ructions over players pay and conditions leading to threats of the high profile international against England in London being boycotted.

Since then after a promising start the 7s team’s world series campaign has fallen apart and now comes news that two of the union’s top officials have resigned.

Chief Executive Fred Amoa says he wants to return to the legal profession, while High Performance Director, Matt Vaea, plans to go into business with his wife.

He says it was tempting to stay on for the World Cup and the visit of the All-Blacks in July, but he insists his decision has been a year in the making and nothing to do with any conflict behind the scenes.
