Motorists were again urged to use caution while travelling by road repair sites because of the dangers posed to the workmen.

As an example, Grantham Road where sections were recently resealed, passing traffic travelling too fast posed a major concern according to Fulton Hogan Hiways Stabilizing Foreman, Tevita Sasina.

“We are doing our best to make the road safer and better for motorists and we need their full support to follow the road signs as requested, especially the speed limits. It is difficult to concentrate on our work and worry about traffic speed at the same time. We are working on many roads and wherever we work we ask the motorists to please drive with care,” he said.

More than 15,000 vehicles use the Suva thoroughfare daily, according to Mr. Sasina, and this is the first significant repair work in 12 years and should go far in strengthening the road.

“Close to 140 metres of road basically were was replaced. Damage included It was filled with cracked seals surfaces and numerous recurring potholes; it needed extensive stabilization repair work,” said Mr. Sasina.

Fulton Hogan Hiways is working closely with the Fiji Road Authority to improve safety at its worksites.
