Dubai, the most populous city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates, and the second largest emirate by territorial size after the capital, Abu Dhabi, is geared once again to play host to thousands of Sevens Rugby fans and Team supporters from around the world, as they converge at the Oil rich city this weekend

The tournament is being billed as the biggest ever, and is dubbed the ultimate festival of rugby attracting record crowds this year.

With many teams now focusing more on the RIO Olympics 2016, the stakes for both the men’s and women’s international teams will be much higher than ever before, which will certainly add more depth and competition to the event.

President of the Emirates Group Services and Dnata, Gaby Chapman said that the 45 year old tournament will further showcase Dubai as it attracts most of the world’s best exponents of the Sevens code in the Emirates.

UAE Rugby Federation Chairman, Mr Mohammed Abdul Rakman Falaknaz said that the sevens game had over the years inspired many Emiratis to take interest in this fast paced sport, and that with the Olympic Games in RIO 2016, the Federation was now concentrating on all levels of development for the sport especially in schools where coaching clinics were being developed at that early age.

“We aim to have 1500 Emirati youths meeting on a weekly basis and that the immense support  given by the UAE National Olympic Committee and the UAE General Authority of Sports and Welfare, which have really enabled the Federation to achieve its goals of raising completion to another level” Mr Falaknaz added.

The tournament is the last major IRB Series event for the year.
