2014 Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic – 2014 Winners Found

Friday, August 1, 2014. The 12th annual Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic concluded today with new winners coming through yet again.

From New Zealand’s Sherwood Park and Whangarei Golf Clubs, Anne Prescott and Magdalena Koch, won on a count-back from Lyn Melody and Pene Trousselot, who are both members of the New Plymouth GC, in New Zealand.

Prescott and Koch who are playing in their 5th Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic have never been the in the main prize pool.

After an ordinary start in the opening foursomes stableford round on Tuesday, where they scored only 31 points, Thursday’s 4BBB Stableford score of 52 bolted them to the top of the leader board.  Prescott and Koch finished today with 78 combined stableford points edging out Melody and Trousselot had a respectable 75 points today.

The tournament, which started in 2003, has never had back-to-back winners despite many partners including past winners, returning year after year.  Defending champions Lynne Gibbs and Sue Roberston, (North Shore GC, NZ) finished down the field with 146 points.

The tournament, which is sponsored and held at The Sheraton’s Fiji Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, regularly attracts over 100 players.  The 2014 field with 120 players included entrants from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and two locals.   Denarau Golf & Racquet Club member Sulu Brook, partnered with Napier GC (NZ) member Loretta Pearson, while Tracey Duncan from Natadola GC was paired with Dale Malaghan from Royal Auckland (NZ).

Brook and Pearson finished off the pace on 140 points, with Duncan and Malaghan not in the hunt with only 124 points.

Daily prize winners included Maryanne Marlow and Julie Battersby from Clearwater Resort (NZ), Tuesday’s day one foursomes, with 44 points, and Flo Wells and Terri Thompson (both Waitemata GC, NZ members) having the most impressive round today with 81 combined stableford points.  Prescott and Koch, the overall winners, had earlier taken Thursdays best round prize with 52 4BBB Stableford points.

Auckland based PaR nz Golfing Holidays have announced the dates for 2015 Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic will be held between the 3rd – 7th August, with a fun Ambrose round planned for the first round.
