Monday 18th November – A total of $36,200 was presented to the Cure Kids Foundation after a successful three-day Accor challenge series which broke new barriers last weekend.
Digicel Fiji brand ambassadors, Paralympic gold medalist, Iliesa Delana and Pacific sprint champion, Banuve Tabakaucoro along with former Digicel Fiji 7s coach, Iliesa Tanivula played a huge role in the fundraising event.
The challenge saw amputee Delana join able body competitors in kayak and bilibili races off the Wailoaloa Beach.
“We had so much fun and I really enjoyed myself being part of this event to help Cure Kids Fiji,” said Delana.
“It was a fantastic weekend, and to top it all up, we made new friends and were engaged in some wonderful challenge events, ranging from zumba, making a hut and then the fun in the water events,” said Tabakaucoro.
The final day of the competition last Saturday, started with a zumba on the beach at 6am before the kayak race off Wailoaloa Beach. The team then visited Loloma Home in Sabeto, which is a home for mothers and children of domestic abuse, and currently houses 9 mothers and their children.
The 3 teams each had different challenges to complete – Blue team to construct a playground for the children, the yellow team were on a mini-kitchen makeover, and the green team were on painting and finishing off of a new toilet and shower block and exterior house painting.
The final event was a bilibili relay race on the waterfront at Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa.
At the closing ceremony, Tim Edmonds, Innovation and Research Manager for Cure Kids was presented with a cheque for $36,200.00, which will purchase a new echocardiography machine for Cure Kids Rheumatic Heart Screening program.
Tanivula and his Blue Team won the event scoring most points in the three-day challenge while the Rosie ‘Ruvez’ Holidays team won the most funds raised by an individual team award.
