An amended charge sheet was presented to Court yesterday regarding FICAC’s case against former Principal Information Officer of the Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities, Sainiana Waqainabete Radrodro who is being charged with 11 counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception, contrary to Section 318 of the Crimes Decree No 44 of 2009.

FICAC prosecutor, Rashmi Aslam made an application to file the amended charges, in order to rectify the minor errors made in the initial charges.

With the amended charges, the accused is alleged to have obtained financial advantage by falsely stating that the Minister for Works, Transport & Public Utilities had requested in grand total of $9560 over 11 separate occasions between May of 2010 and June 2011.

Radrodro was represented by Seruwaia Nayacalevu who did not object to the amended charges and so application to file the amended charges was granted by Magistrate Yohan Liyanage.

Nayacalevu, upon confirming the receipt of the 2nd phase disclosures requested further documents such as the Minister’s diary notes and correspondence and needed more time to peruse the amended charges for his client Radrodro, to take a plea.

FICAC prosecutor confirmed, after inquiry of the magistrate, that all the relevant materials had been disclosed from the investigations carried out and there are no further disclosures to be given to defence at present.

On this note, Magistrate Liyanage adjourned the matter to 4thFebruary, 2013 for mention. In the meantime, bail was extended for the accused.
