Another death on our roads

A man believed to be in his late 40s became the latest road fatality yesterday.

At 2.20pm yesterday along the Kings road, Teidamu a 48 year old man from Lautoka allegedly bumped the deceased while he was crossing the road.

The deceased was taken to the Lautoka Hospital and later died at around 5.10pm.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

Unnatural Death 

A 29 year old farmer of Mataso, Ra is believed to be the latest drowning victim after he was found floating in a river.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 1700hrs. The deceased was last seen leaving his house to bathe in a river located 100m away from his home.

A fellow resident of the settlement was waiting for him to return and when he failed to do so he went to look for him. Upon checking he saw the deceased floating in the river. Attempts to revive him proved futile and his body is now being kept at the Rakiraki Mortuary.

Investigations continue.

The current drowning toll stands at 34 compared to 57 for the same period last year.
