BASKETBALL FIJI TEAMS WITH FASANOC STOP HIV&NCDs PROGRAM

THE FASANOC STOP HIV&NCDs program will be conducting its 1st outreach program for the year 2014 during the Basketball Easter Championship beginning Monday 14th – 17th of April at the Vodafone arena.

FASANOC STOP HIV&NCDs Project Officer Jeegar Bhavsar said the comprehensive outreach program will be targeting all 31 participating teams, officials and spectators. The outreach will also include a visiting team from New Caledonia.

Basketball Development Officer and STOP HIV Champion Laisiasa Puamau said the partnership is in line with the objectives of the tournament in providing awareness programs to our participants in regards to making the event more than just about competitive participation. It is good to have STOP HIV&NCDs Team as a partner advocating on the prevention of HIV/AIDS and NCDs during the event. Basketball Fiji slogan “It’s more than just basketball” is a testimony to the partnership.

This year FASANOC STOP HIV&NCDs program with support from ONOC, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health (MoH) is looking at expanding to include advocacy on the prevention of NCDs through Sports and looks forward to working with other National Federations.

In the meantime the Program has received a good number of applications for 2014 Champions and will be conducting interviews over the next week.
