BSP, in partnership with the Peoples’ Community Network of Fiji (PCN), today handed over a brand new Kindergarten for the people of Sawakasa and nearby villages.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, BSP Country Manager, Mr Kevin McCarthy said, “Funding this kindergarten through PCN was to help with early childhood education which has been identified as a major contributing factor to improving the benefits of primary and secondary education.”
Through key partnerships with PCN and the Fiji National University, youths of Sawakasa were able to receive technical training while helping with the construction of the kindergarten. “I am pleased to note that this project allowed the youths to complete the required practical experience to gain certification which has led to them securing jobs,” added Mr McCarthy.
The historical occasion for the people of Sawakasa was attended by all village elders, a PCN delegation, the school management, students and their families.
“We have prominent schools located nearby such as QVS and RKS. This new kindergarten will be a sight to see for all those who pass by and our children will gain the most from this donation,” said the Filimoni Loco Kindergarten School Manager, Mr Lote Degei.
The facility is located to the front end of the school compound, is well ventilated and can accommodate 30 students. “It’s safe to say that learning is guaranteed with these improved classroom conditions. I am honoured to open the doors to a new kindergarten which promises a brighter future for its students,” said Mr McCarthy.
BSP commits $200,000 annually to community projects spearheaded by volunteering staff members from our branch network.
