The Court of Appeal in its Ruling Wednesday has dismissed an appeal by the Fiji Times against the Judgment of the High Court which convicted the Fiji Times for the offence of contempt of scandalising the court.

On 1 October 2012, Fiji Times was found guilty by the High Court of the offence of contempt of scandalising the court.

The High Court subsequently imposed a fine of $300,000 against the Fiji Times, a fine of $10,000 against the former publisher and a six month imprisonment term (suspended for two years) against the Editor-in Chief.

In dismissing the appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld the convictions imposed by the High Court and additionally ordered the Fiji Times to pay costs of the appeal to the State in the sum of $3,000.00.
