The Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Laisenia Tuitubou praised the teachers of Gram Sangathan Primary School in Verata, Tailevu for imparting cultural and traditional knowledge onto students at the school.

While officiating at the handing over of the schools rural sporting field, the Hon. Minister was accorded an iTaukei traditional ceremony of isevusevu by Year 7 and 8 students.

He paid tribute to the schoolteachers for teaching students about Fiji’s different cultures and traditions. “Culture is an important part of our lives and I would like to show my gratitude to the teachers and school management of Gram Sangathan for teaching this tradition to our students,” he said.

Minister Tuitubou stated that as Fijians, the responsibility was on every citizen to pass down their traditions and customs.

“We are all Fijians under this Government and for you to maintain and teach our young population their role and responsibilities in terms of their culture gives us hope in the future of our nation,” he said.

“Witnessing these young students actively participate in the iTaukei tradition of i’sevusevu was heart-warming and also gives us confidence in the protection of our culture,” Minister Tuitubou said.
