The Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama has congratulated Solomon Islands on the anniversary of the nation’s 37th independence.

In a letter to his Solomon Islands counterpart, Hon Manasseh Sogovare, Prime Minister Bainimarama acknowledged his outstanding leadership of the country since his election in December 2014.

PM Bainimarama also called for closer relations between the two island nations and said that he looks forward to working together to solve mutual and regional problems.

“This is an opportunity for Solomon Islands not only to reflect on its history, but also to keep a sharp eye on its future. We see that future as characterized by a strengthening of the longstanding ties between our two nations and our people,” the Prime Minister said.

“I wish to also thank the Government and our other brothers in the Melanesian family for your firm support and understanding as we Fijians made our long effort to finally bring true democracy to our country. That support was critical, and we will always remember it.”

“Solomon Islands have shown leadership and fine statecraft, and I convey this message to you today in the spirit of friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect.”
