Fiji hosts 54th Session of Asian Productivity Organisation Workshop Meeting

The National Training and Productivity Centre of Fiji National University as the National Productivity Organisation (NPO) of Fiji, will hosted the 54th session of the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) heads of NPOs meeting.

The event is held at Sheraton Fiji Resort in Nadi from 29-31 October, 2013. The official opening was done by Fiji’s Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, who welcomed more than 50 delegates from 19 APO member countries including Fiji.

The APO workshop is an annual event and is attended by heads of NPOs and agriculture delegates of NPOs from all APO member countries. The heads of NPOs and agriculture delegates are high ranking civil servants, businessmen and highly qualified professionals.

The objective of the APO is to increase productivity in the countries of Asia and the Pacific region through mutual co-operation between countries. The membership of the APO is by national governments, which puts the responsibility for the promotion of productivity in the nation, on the government of the day, through the respective National Productivity Organisations.

Countries attending the meeting include Bangladesh, Cambodia, Republic of China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Phillipines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

The APO is the largest productivity promotion organisation in the world and its achievement in the promotion of productivity especially in South-East Asia and Africa is widely known. Fiji is a member of the APO since 1 January, 1984.
