“Fiji hosts Customs Heads meeting”-7th to 9th April

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Organisation will be hosting the Oceania Customs

Organisation 16th Annual Conference in Suva next week.

About 32 delegates from the region are expected to attend the meeting, which will be

held at the Revenue and Customs Complex in Nasese, Suva.

“We are expecting to have a good meeting and discuss issues that are common to our Administrations.The theme for this year’s meeting is “Communication: Sharing Information for Better Cooperation”. FRCA Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jitoko Tikolevu said.

Fiji last hosted the meeting in 2006.

Participants of this year’s meeting are from Tuvalu, Tonga, Nauru, New Caledonia, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Northern Marianas, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Norfolk Islands, Vanuatu, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Niue, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste.

“While the OCO heads meeting is held annually, we have continuous missions and information sharing between members,” Mr Jitoko Tikolevu said.

“This is important as we try and combat transnational countries and the challenges at our various borders,” Mr Tikolevu said.

“We will need to continue to work together as a region to ensure that our borders are secure and safe from criminals. “Sharing information is vital now more than ever as criminal syndicates get more sophisticated.”
