Fiji wins first match in New Zealand 7s

Digicel Fiji 7s captain Setefani Cakau scored two tries to help his side win their first match in the New Zealand 7s against Portugal, 24-7.

Nadroga’s Samisoni Viriviri played a splendid performance after he darted his way through Portugal’s defense to score the opening try, and set up the second try which was scored by Cakau.

This was after Portugal bounced back to score a try.

Fiji led halftime, 12-7.

Cakau scored his second superb try in the first few minutes of the second half, following a conversion by Joji Ragamate, 17-7.

Ilai Tinai then sealed their win by scoring the last try.

Earlier Fiji also loss to Scotland in their first pool match 14-12.

Fiji will now play United States in the bowl quarterfinals.

Our last pool match is against Portugal at 8.34 tonight.

The Cup quarterfinals start at 1.33pm tomorrow with the Cup semifinals at 5.35pm tomorrow.

The Cup final will be played at 8.30pm tomorrow.
