Nadi, Fiji: Tuesday, 23 September 2014. Tourism Fiji has won the TODAY’S TRAVELLER AWARD 2014 for Emerging International Tourism Destination under the International Tourism category.

The Award was presented to Mr. Pranav Kapadia and Ms. Kajal Somaiya, Tourism Fiji’s India Representatives by Honourable Mr Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism & Culture, at the award ceremony held in New Delhi on 16th September, 2014.

This is the second award won recently by Tourism Fiji in India, the first one being “Best Emerging Destination International” at the Lonely Planet Travel Awards 2012 held in Mumbai.

Fiji has carved its niche in the Indian outbound market and is becoming increasingly popular not only amongst high-end honeymooners but even small groups of families and friends. While the main focus is on honeymooners and couples, Tourism Fiji is also enthusiastically investing in the development of the family and small, platinum level incentive group segments as well.

Visitor arrivals to Fiji from India have been growing steadily with an average growth of 15% year-on-year. This is the result of a concerted effort to grow both consumer and travel trade interest in Fiji through a range of initiatives including advertising, trade partnerships, multi-city trade roadshows, exhibitions and sales visits.

“The Indian outbound travel market is growing around 15% annually and in a market of such size this is a massive opportunity for Fiji,” says Ken Freer, Tourism Fiji Acting CEO. “While the Indian market remains a small one for Fiji, receiving this award is a great acknowledgement that the work Tourism Fiji and the wider Fijian trade is doing in India is successful and will help lead to further growth out of this market.”

Tourism Fiji acknowledges the support from all the Travel Trade partners in India and Fiji for their support in the development of India’s outbound travel market to Fiji and look forward to sharing more of why Fiji really is where happiness finds you.
