The new People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Zhang Ping paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola in Suva today.

Ambassador Ping informed the Minister that he was happy to be in Fiji and recognized Fiji as an important country in the region. Ambassador Zhang Ping said, “We have achieved quite a lot by working with Fiji and we can do lot more for the country and the region”.

Minister Kubuabola reassured Ambassador Ping that after the successful general elections the traditional development partners were re-engaging with Fiji, but Fiji will always remember and value its true friend, China, for its support during Fiji’s difficult times.

Minister Kubuabola was also pleased to hear about the good reviews in China on the movie – ‘Daddy where shall we go’ which was shot in Taveuni last year. As a result of this movie, more Chinese now know Fiji and there could be a rise in Chinese tourists traveling to Fiji.

During their meeting, the two also discussed ways in which Fiji and the People’s Republic of China could work towards strengthening their bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation in various areas.
