Fijians to depart for Darwin

By LAURA MACINTOSH

Makutu Seru and Viliame Mana will depart for Darwin tomorrow, to represent the East-Asia Pacific (EAP) team that will contest the Rising Stars Quad Series, to be held from September 14 to 19.

Makutu and Viliame will compete along side their colleagues from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Japan, against teams representing PNG, the Australian Indigenous XI, and the Northern Territory Strikers in a series of Twenty20 and 50 over matches.

For Makutu and Viliame, all who are members of Fiji’s Senior Men’s National Squad, this will be a unique experience for them to hone their skills on a turf wicket, ahead of the Senior Men’s Development Tour, followed by the International Cricket Council’s EAP Twenty20 World Cup and World Cricket League Qualifiers later in this year.

Aside from the three Fijians, there are five players from Vanuatu, five from PNG, and one Japanese player in the team, which will be coached by PNG’s John Ovia.
