The death toll in the flooding disaster hitting southern Queensland and New South Wales has reached four, after a young boy died in a Brisbane hospital.

The three-year-old suffered head injuries when he was hit by a tree while flood-watching on Monday morning.

The bad weather has headed south, with residents in Grafton ordered to evacuate as a record flood in the Clarence River threatens levees.

Bundaberg remains in the grip of its worst flood on record, but the weather bureau says this morning’s peak in Brisbane may not be as bad as previously feared.
