Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa, Yanuca, Fiji announces the transfer of Pritika Darshani to Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa, Philippines as Revenue Manager.  Making the announcement, Michael Monks, the General Manager of Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa, said that Ms Darshani showed great promise when she was hired as the resort’s marketing services officer. A few months later, Ms Darshani was selected for the Corporate Trainee Programme and was trained in revenue management.  She is currently the resort’s Service Manager (revenue management).

“Pritika joined our resort as a fresh tourism and hospitality graduate and she impressed us from the outset with her enthusiasm and go-getter attitude,” said Monks. “Since Pritika’s appointment, we have hired three more corporate trainees, two of whom have recently returned from the Shangri-La Academy in China. The Shangri-La Corporate Trainee Programme is but one avenue of opportunity for our staff. We have also had two staff members who participated in the Shangri-La Explorer Programme and who were on attachment at our sister property in Dubai for six months.”

Ms Darshani said she was honoured to have been selected as a trainee and was excited about the opportunity being offered to her. “I consider myself so fortunate to be given such an immense opportunity, first when I joined the company over three years ago, and I have been allowed to grow very quickly into this role,” said Ms Darshani.  “It has been such a learning curve for me and now as I embark on my new role at our sister property I am so excited at the prospect of being able to forge a path not just for myself but for my colleagues here in Fiji who would like to further their careers with Shangri-La.”

The two corporate trainees that are presently undergoing training at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa are Chad Eastgate and Gwen Yuen. Kiara Fong was a Corporate Trainee but has graduated into a senior management role in the Resort’s Housekeeping Department.

The Corporate Trainee Programme allows Shangri-La’s new talent to be groomed into leadership roles in the company.  The programme consists of a 16-month developmental programme that is divided into three stages. The first stage includes a hotel orientation for two months before candidates spend two months at the Shangri-La Academy. In the second phase, the trainee spends six months doing on-the-job training in his or her area of specialisation. In the third phase, the trainee spends a further six months in an acting position before he or she commences an attachment at either a city hotel or resort.
