Kamoe turns out victor

Twelve nations from the pacific competed in the Pacific Oceania Junior Championship which came to an end yesterday at the Regional Tennis Centre (RTC) court in Lautoka after Fiji’s Mulan Kamoe won the girls under 16 event. Mulan, a year nine student at Natabua High School defeated Ayana Rengill of Palau 6-3, 7-5 in straight sets. Mulan said that she felt happy after her win. “I would like to thank my coaches and my parents for supporting me,” said the 15 year old.

In the boys under 16 grade, Manoa Desvignes of Tahiti overcame Kevin Maukoloa of Amercian Samoa with 6-4, 7-6 (3) in straight sets. In the Under 14 grade Lary Maglasan  (American Samoa) beat Michael Emery (Tahiti)  6-4, 6-1  in the boys event and Carol Lee of Saipan defeated Lee Bolo 7-6(2) and 6-1.

Darren, Director of Regional Tennis Centre Fiji said “this tournament allow Fiji players to have more variety to the people they are playing and to gain an awareness of the overall standard of tennis in Pacific”.

The two week long tournament winner and runner up will be given a tour at the end of the year which includes Mulan Kamoe, the only Fijian player to make it to the finals. Mulan and Ruby is also leaving to Australia on the 29th of this month to play a tournament.
