Local fruit trees planted to commemorate sustainable development

A total of 250 local fruit trees were planted around the compound of Andrews Primary School as an initiative of Accor group of hotels and Planet 21 to celebrate sustainable development.

The Accor group of hotels involves Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, Novotel, Nadi and Mecure, Nadi.

Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa General Manager, Simon Jinks said it was a good encouragement to both the volunteers and the school, after being part of the volunteers planting around the school compound.

“This was really a good initiative, for our staffs, they get to show team work and bond amongst each other. And also involving the young students of the school was really good, they get to learn more,” he said.

Jinks also mentioned the team involved staffs from different departments from the hotel.

“All the staffs that turned out here today volunteered, and are all various departments from the hotel,” he said.

Also speaking to The Jet Newspaper, Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa Learning & Development Director, Susan Waqanivere said they have been working closely with the school lately.

“We have formed this partnership with Andrews Primary School after cyclone Evan, we have been working together with the school ever since then,” she said.

Also today, Novotel, Nadi staffs volunteered to go plant fruit trees at Nadi Airport School, whereas, Mecure Hotel, Nadi staffs went to Namaka Public School.
