MINISTER KUBUABOLA MEETS WITH EU HEADS OF MISSIONS

Fiji’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Ratu Inoke Kubuabola today met with the European Union Heads of Missions.

Minister Kubuabola updated the delegation on the recent work and activities of the Ministry with relation to Fiji’s Participation at the Pacific Islands Development Forum, Pacific Island Forum and the United Nations General Assembly. At the forefront of the discussions was the issue of climate change which has transcended through all the recent meets.

European Union Ambassador to the Pacific, H.E. Andrew Jacobs stated that he was glad with the progress and momentum gained in the region in preparation for the 21st Conference of Parties (COP 21) that will be held in Paris in November this year.

Minister Kubuabola highlighted to the Delegation that Fiji will be formalizing its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) in preparation for COP 21. The Hon. Minister further added that Fiji had actively lobbied for support on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to host a Triennial United Nations Conferences on Oceans and Seas in 2017 as well as seeking support for Fiji’s candidacy for the Presidency of the 71st session of the UNGA.

H.E. Andrew Jacobs was also pleased to announce that the programmes for Agriculture and Justice for Fiji were at the Terms of Reference stages and he was positive that funding in the vicinity of (27) twenty seven million Euros would be available shortly. H.E. Andrews also stated that Fiji would benefit from other regional funding.

British High Commissioner to Fiji, H.E. Mr. Roderick Drummond, French Ambassador to Fiji, H.E. Michel Djokovic and Resident First Secretary to Fiji (Embassy of Spain – Wellington) were also in attendance.
