The 58 Senior Citizens of the Golden Age Home in Samabula were treated with a Special Christmas Party by the Honorable Minister for Women, Children, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa last night.

The event yes a special occasion for the residents of the Home especially for 102 year old Benina Ciriavesi who hails from Gau Island in Lomaiviti.

Ciriavesi was given a special garland by the Ministry and also assisted Minister Vuniwaqa in cutting their 2018 Christmas Party cake.

“I am thankful to the Government of the day for treating us as family.” She said.

Minister Vuniwaqa said “This is a Christmas Party for you, this is a little something that the Government would like to share with you. To let you know that we are here, that we care about you”

  The Golden Age Home longest serving board member Dr Salesi Savou commended the Minister for the abundance of support given to the Home.

“I must say that it was a real breath of fresh air for us after being here for more than 10 years when our home was transferred to your ministry from January 2016. We are getting the full attention and technical support that this Home deserves in the effective and efficient caring of our loving 58 Senior Citizens of this resident,” Dr Salesi said.

Minister Vuniwaqa was accompanied by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary Dr Joseva Koroivueta. The visit was part of ministry’s vision of empowering the disadvantaged and women.
