Thursday 1 August – Nadi is heavily tipped to secure a top place finish in the Digicel Cup rugby competition this week. The jet-setters play a struggling Ovalau side in the last match at Saint John’s College ground in Cawaci.

A win for Nadi will see them earn $5,000.

“This is the first prize for the team that finish’s at the top of the points table after 11 rounds of games,” said FRU’s Operations Manager, Vilikesa Rinavuaka.

Nadi crushed Lautoka to stay in third place on the points table but is just two-points behind current leaders Nadroga and second-placed Suva.

Nadroga have secured a home semifinal and if Nadi wins over Ovalau, they will host one semifinal and possibly the Digicel Cup final.

“The Digicel Cup has been intensely contested this year and teams were fighting for a place in the semifinals until the last round of games,” said Digicel Fiji’s Head of Marketing, Ms. Sheryl Singh.

“This shows that teams have been supported well throughout the season and they have worked hard to produce quality rugby this season.” Said Ms Singh.

She also heaped praise on newly promoted Namosi for qualifying for the semifinals.
