NEW ZEALAND DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR AUSTRALIA RUGBY 7s

Two powerful New Zealand Women’s Rugby Sevens teams were today announced as the latest contestants confirmed for the Fitness First Central Coast Sevens International Rugby Festival taking place 25th & 26th October.

Big Hitting provincial side Bay of Plenty will be returning for the second year alongside newcomers Wellington’s Northern United Rugby Football Club.

Norths are one of the strongest and most successful women’s rugby teams from the Wellington Region and will compete at the prestigious Central Coast event for the first time come October in what is widely regarded as the premier women’s rugby sevens tournament in the Southern Hemisphere. North’s come to Australia with a number of New Zealand club titles under their belts and are an exciting addition to the high quality field of teams from around the world.

Bay of Plenty contested the 2013 tournament and were very impressive with what was a very young side on their first overseas tour. The team are returning in 2014 with a mix of youth and experience with an eye on claiming the tournament championship the Kinesio Cup. The Bay side were one win away from the final in 2013 and are expected to be a major challenger comes finals time.

The two Kiwi heavyweights will join an impressive line-up of teams that includes Australia’s premier women’s sides such as 2013 National Champion ACT Brumbies, Invitational side Tribe 7s who feature a number of the Australian national team alongside powerhouse International participants Japan’s Kanto Champion Rugirl 7, Fijiana the Fijian national team, Stars Rugby from the USA and Olympic Host Nation Brazil.

Rugby Sevens is the fastest growing team sport in the world enjoying a magnificent rise in popularity as the game heads toward featuring at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The Central Coast event is widely regarded as Australia’s premier domestic sevens tournament featuring explosive on field action and a vibrant sideline family festival.

The game of Rugby Sevens is the fastest growing team sport in the world with the massive boom for the sport expected to continue as rugby sevens heads toward the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in two years time.
