As families around the country prepare to celebrate Diwali, a senior Police Officer will leave his, and will miss all the celebration during this festive season.

The Fiji Police Force Director of Human Resource, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Itendra Nair will leave tomorrow (Friday 01/11/13) for South Sudan and will take up his new United Nations Police  (UNPOL) appointment as Chief of Staff.

It will be the first time for a Fijian Police Officer to be appointed to a strategic position.

“This is a historic moment for the Fiji Police Force and all other appointments in the past were all at tactical level. This post reports directly to the Commissioner of the UN Police in South Sudan,” said SSP Nair.

The officer from Ba said that he will be responsible for the Human Resource Department, Training, Audit and Discipline of UN Police in South Sudan.

Despite leaving for a year for the UN mission, SSP Nair still has the Fiji Police Force at heart.

“We are going through changes and very soon, a new Commissioner will be appointed. Despite who will become Commissioner, I urge every officer to support and be loyal to the chair,” said SSP Nair.

On the thoughts of leaving his family behind during their most important celebration for the year, the Director HRM said it will be hard.

This will be the four mission for SSP Nair as he has served in Cambodia in 1993, North Sudan in 2006 and in Darfur in 2008.

The Fiji Police Force congratulated SSP Itendra Nair in his historic appointment and wishes him all the best.
