Nadi, 6 November 2015 – The 6th Corona Uprising Festival of Music, Dance & Lights will include the best line-up of local artists with Fiji’s most popular bands all confirmed for the event to be staged at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour – the Adventure Capital of Fiji – this weekend.

More than 1500 people are expected to attend the annual event, with a much larger audience than previous years, which will include musicians, dance performers, tourists, expats, radio personalities, local celebrities, artists and the Fijian people.

Another lure for music aficionados is the inclusion of international artists, Fiji-born didgeridoo artist and stringed instrument virtuoso Jay Hoad and Inoke “Knox” Kalounisiga, a Fijian singer/songwriter known for his guitar playing skills, amazingly unique vocals & live performances.

With 12 hours of music and spectacular dance, the Festival creates the much needed awareness to position Pacific Harbour’s identity as an ‘inclusive and complete’ tourism region in Fiji.

Uprising Beach Resort General Manager, Mr James Pridgeon says that they hope to showcase local flair and offer visiting tourists a promise of a first class entertainment event.

“The Festival has been a hit over the years because we have been consistent in our event management and adapting to the feedback received to constantly improve and grow from strength to strength. Strong corporate support in terms of sponsorship has also grown which allows us to produce a bigger and better event every year,” Mr Pridgeon explains.

He further explains that the common goals of all those associated with producing the Festival in seeing local musicians and artists collaborating with the goal to produce Fiji’s best music event, ticket pricing and acknowledging our local market has also been key to the success of the event.

“We remain solid in our vision to continue to host this event annually, and with the support of sponsors, we can commit to an even bigger show in 2016,” Mr Pridgeon adds.

The event also focuses to showcase both seasoned and emerging Fijian artists with their diverse range of music, dance and movement depicting local culture.

In addition, it aims to develop a more expansive mix of patrons for music and dance, through attracting a broader audience e.g. cultural organizations, foreign embassies, regional bodies etc., plus make the festival as accessible and family friendly as possible, with activities and affordable catering onsite.

Mr Pridgeon says, “Tourism Fiji’s commitment to steer the growth of the industry by getting behind an event that is only growing from strength to strength each year enables us to reach out to wholesalers and the travel agent market to increase our business, which directly injects more revenue into Fiji’s economy.”

Tourism Fiji Executive Chairman, Mr Truman Bradley says Pacific Harbour plays a crucial role for Fiji’s tourism industry’s success.

“Tourism Fiji supports such creative efforts by our industry partners that place emphasis on promoting key tourism regions of the country, and more importantly showcasing Fiji’s culture and talent.”

“This initiative is an excellent example which demonstrates collaboration between industry partners in the true spirit of “Team Fiji.” We will also have agents from our key source markets attending the event, to experience Fiji’s love for music and the essence of true happiness shared by the Fijian people with our visitors. This is something which Fiji is well-known for and a reason we continue to have a competitive edge over other established and emerging tourism destinations around the world,” Mr Bradley adds.

The Festival will start at 12-noon tomorrow, Saturday, 7 November.

Tickets for the event are selling at FJ$25 each.
