Pacific head of EU presents credentials

The new Head of the European Union Delegation for the Pacific, Ambassador Andrew Jacobs, (pictured) presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of the Fiji Islands His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on Tuesday, March 5.

 
The European Union, a long-term partner of Fiji – starting almost 40 years ago -and of the Pacific region in general, shares the country’s ambition to reduce poverty and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

 
The Ambassador’s efforts will be focused on strengthening the bilateral and regional cooperation and partnerships at all levels in line with the common goals and guiding framework enshrined in the Cotonou Partnership Agreement.

 

Ambassador Jacobs was keen to point out how pleased he was with his posting.

 
“I accepted with great pleasure and sense of responsibility the posting to your beautiful country, so rich in diversity. I sincerely believe that by working in close collaboration we have much to achieve in addressing these challenging times.”

 
Ambassador Jacobs, prior to his posting as Head of the EU Delegation for the Pacific was Head of Unit for the Southern Neighbourhood (North Africa and the Middle East), under the Directorate General for Development and Co-operation (EuropeAid).

 
He has previously served as Head of Operations in the European Commission’s Delegation in Bangkok, covering Thailand, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as, Head of Operations in the Vietnam Delegation.

 
He speaks English, French, Italian and Spanish. Ambassador Jacobs is married with three children. His wife and his youngest son are pleased to be in Fiji with him.
